I have no idea how far you want to go back, but there is the surname POPE
found in early Elbert County Ga which ajoins SC. The travel route south
from VA was thru both of these mentioned areas. The Courthouse in Elbert
Co. is staffed with people who might could give you some ointers on the
OPOE family in Elberton GA who miagrated to Atlanta and points west Good
luck..
