Hello,

Anything flat can be scanned with good quality if the scanner is good,
obviously nothing good is gonna come out of a handheld scanner just the same way
that a crappy camera doesn't take good photos.

You need a flatbed scanner with a resolution of at least 1024x768 pixels (if
it's 1280x1024 even better) with 16.7 million colours I know some people talks
in DPIs instead of pixels, I think the good ones start at 4800 DPI.

There's some photo companies that will print anything from a image file, for
example BOOTS (on the UK) will print your negatives or images onto paper,
cardboard, puzzles, mugs, caps, t-shirts, etc. So just specify that you want it
in photographic paper with the best possible quality.

Any shop licensed on KODAK PhotoCD processing will do excellent scannings of
negatives and write them on a PhotoCD, one of this CD's can hold up to 100
phots, and can print phots from the PhotoCD at anytime afterwards.

Once a photo is on a image file, then you can correct the focus, enhance edges,
remove red eyes, remove unwanted people, do a "pixel washing", correct the color
histogram, gamma correction, etc, sometimes you can even make people that was on
the shadows visible. Good photo manipulating software are: Kai's Photo Soap,
PhotoShop, PhotoSuite, and so many others, the best approach it's to use a
cocktail of them, because some packages have some features that other don't,
like focus correction & eye reduction.

If I understand the e-mail I've been receiving which I do appreciate,
scanned photos can be reproduced and perhaps even be made into a
photograph.
What about just a copy, like a Kinko copy from a copy machine?
