To Phil and all of the rest of the people out here.
THERE IS NO INDEX FOR BIRTH RECORDS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. BIRTH RECORDS FOR THE STATE OF
MICHIGAN ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. There is a MARRIAGE INDEX, There is a Death Record Index
but I only know of the one for Detroit Michigan. The Death Index for the State of Michigan I
believe goes to 1914 I believe. So it is very hard to look up death indexes or Birth records
when there in no index.
This is what the State of Michigan does about Birth Records. They will do a 3 year search and
give you a copy of the birth record if they find it and IF YOU ARE AN HEIR, PARENT OF, OR HAVE
THE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO OBTAIN A COPY OR HAVE A DEATH RECORD SHOWING THAT THE PERSON IS DEAD.
YOU CAN OBTAIN A COPY OF THE BIRTH RECORD IF YOU GIVE THEM A COPY OF YOUR DRIVERS' LICENSE.
fOR THIS SEARCH THEY CHARGE 13.00 AND THEN IF THEY DON'T FIND IT IT IS AN ADDITIONAL 4.00 PER
YEAR.
IF THE RECORD IS BEFORE 1930 IT TAKE 6 WEEKS TO RECEIVE IT OR LONGER. THERE IS NO REFUND. IF
THEY DON'T FIND IT YOU DON'T GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
I HOPE THIS SOLVES THE MYSTERY OF THE LACK OF MICHIGAN BIRTH AND DEATH RECORD INDEXES.
you need to have a date to obtain the records, the parents names including the maiden name of
the mother . If the person is still alive you have to get a power of attorney if your are not
related or the person who's birth record you are asking for.
Any more questions please feel free to e-mail me.
Jean
