The worst thing I have seen about counties or even us researchers,
giving info to Genealogy sociteites is, I have found the info at Sale!!

I have a nice little loose leef type record, by one of my surnames that
was submitted to a Gen Soc in Alabama. For some reason they did not find
the need to keep it. A cousin of mine bought it at a sale.

I know, or at least heard of, right here in Oregon, some counties just
dumping their records. Just so happened some sort of historical society
got those one records. But how many others are just trashed.

These are documents and should never be taken out of the courthouse!!
The county, State, Feds... require us to get all of these records.. When
we get married we have to "pay" for a marriage record and so on.. Well
this being the case, they should have to "Keep" these records that we
were made to pay to get to start with..

Just my two cents worth.. Cathy in Oregon
