That reminds me of the 2nd grade in the old North Salem schoolhouse in
Brown Co., IN. North Salem was a one-room school and there was no such
thing as 7-11, etc, after all, this was 1945! But all was not lost,
every Thursday morning, the huckster came along in his converted school
bus which carried everything a kid could desire (and momma, too!). Our
teacher would line us up at the end of the driveway and when it was safe,
she would march us all across the highway where we would file in, so-o-o
slowly to look at all of the marvels that bus contained and to spend our
five cents (if we were lucky and Mom had five cents and we hadn't forgot).
What memories!
