In a message dated 97-10-01 13:33:44 EDT, (Donald Heiman)
wrote a wonderful addition to the list.
I not only was moved, but will be adding this to what I refer to in my
workshops in order to encourage people to record their freelings about
others, rather than just collecting these tons of names, dates, etc in their
"pedigree" charts.
More important than when grandma was born or what her middle name was is how
we felt about her; what kind of education she had; what she did for her
family. Record the stories she told you about her family; write down about
items you remember her using in her everyday life. Tell about your third
grade teacher. Tell about your first dance. Write in your own hand, not on
a word-processor or tape machine which will be outdated when your great-
great grandchildren want to know who you were!
These are the things which make people who they are...and added together make
this generation which follows them who we are. These are the important parts
of our stories which we should be passing on to our children & grandchildren.
