Dear Les,
I looked up my encyclopaedia for these three names and only found references on OLDFIELD -
not very much information but may help you.

from Grolier Encyclopaedia under heading CRICKET - BETWEEN TWO WARS - The A.I.F. Team
The A.I.F. team toured England in 1919 and played some matches in S.Africa on the way
home.......Most notable products of this team were two players who were unknown in
important cricket before the war - William Albert Stanley OLDFIELD, who was to become one
of the greatest wicketkeepers of all time.

under heading CRICKET - TESTIMONIAL MATCHES.
.............. A.F. KIPPAX and W.A. OLDFIELD each received the 3000 pound from their joint
testimonial in Sydney in 1948-9.

under heading PERIODICALS.
Period 1821-51 ..................It was not until October 1827 that the next attempt was
made to establish a periodical. The 'South Asian Register', edited by Roger OLDFIELD made
some attempt to avoid the didacticism of MANSFIELD'S publication. It was planned as a
quarterly, but the last of its four issues was five months late. Its failure can be
attributed to mechanical difficulties. Each issue contained 80 - 100 pages.

| My GGrandfather, Anthony Bray Lindley - born 1835 in Elland Yorkshire - came to Australia
on the ship British Trident arriving in Melbourne in Dec. 1857. He travelled with his
cousin Law Oldfield and together they started a Timber Merchants business in about 1864,
this business was still operating in the late 1800s but I believe my GGF sold out his share
shortly before his death in 1885. Law Oldfield died in Hawthorn in 1912.
|
| I wonder if I can make contact with descendants of that Oldfield family using this list?
| And/or can anybody advise where I might find old company records? I had no luck at the
State Archives.
