Hello Colleen,

Hopefully my information will help you

"The Abbottsford Girls Convent School" you refer to would be 'The Good
Shepherd Convent" and orphanage
in Clarke Street Abbotsford. Clarke St runs off Johnston Street to the
river (Yarra) it is now "The Good Shepherd Nursing and Rest Home" It had
at one time a primary school attached "St. Euphrasia's" (my dad started
school there in 1923). It seems a long way from Brougham St. though,
St.James, St Ignatius and St. John's (East Melbourne)(my sister and I
attended there. would all be closer.

I grew up around the corner from the Abbey brewery and it covers an
entire block from Church St to South Audley Street, they have a
visitor's centre,In Nelson Street, I think, where you can take a tour
and I am sure would be able to help you in your search for your
grandfather's records.

The Boy Scout shop is now "Snowgum" and is situated in Lonsdale Street,
over Elizabeth Street, towards Queen Street.

Hope I have been of some help,

Anne
