HENRY DEVEREUX (20) is believed to have emigrated from Liverpool to Australia on the "Great Britain," arriving Victoria in February 1868: to Sebastopol (near Sovereign Hill goldfields, Ballarat, Victoria) and married at Ballarat, 5th May, 1869, MARY ROBERTSON (16, born in Glasgow, Scotland, about 1852). Her parents were John Robertson (carpenter) and Elizabeth McLean. Other Robertson children born in Victoria: Elizabeth (1856 Ballarat), Margaret (1858 Ballarat), Walter (1860 Brow?), William (1870 Sebastopol). [Scottish birth record not yet located. Parents marriage at Barony, Lanark, 20th June, 1852, found.] There are two death registrations for possible Robertson parents in Victoria, but these indicate "parents unknown." Listed children could prove link. s Roxburgh Robertson, b.27th May, 1823, Glasgow, Lanark; Parents: William Robertson and Elisabeth Roxburgh? There is also an Elizabeth McLean, b.20th March 1830, Renfrew, Paisley (six miles from Glasgow); Parents: William McLean and Elizabeth. Both links unproven; birth years correct?


Possible James and Elizabeth Robertson children marriages in Victoria (to 1888, unproven): Elizabeth m. John Henry Watt, 1875/4557 Sandhurst: child: James Alfred, b.1878/4825 Rochester or Rochford; Margaret m. Samuel McPherson 1887/1123 Sandhurst: child: Samuel 1881/7820 Wychtella; Walter m. Mary Jane Gibson Hallas 1888/8601 Sandhurst. Mary Jane was the daughter of Nathan Hallas and Jane Gibson, b.Sandhurst 1864/17884. If the same linked Robertson family this would indicate that they were living at Sandhurst from at least 1875, having been at Sebastopol in 1870. Sandhurst is near Bendigo [a suburb?], and Wychtella not found in current maps
