Date: Wed, 10 May 2000 11:56:31 +1000
The next meeting of the Port Phillip Pioneers' Group will be held this coming Saturday 13 May in the St Andrews Uniting Church Parish Hall, corner Burke and Malvern Roads, Glen Iris at 2.00 pm.
May Keeley will be the guest speaker and her topic will be 'Early Residents of Oakleigh'. Miss Keeley is a noted historian who has had several works published including 'Journey into Yesterday - a History of Clayton' and 'A History of the Oakleigh Council', written at the time of its centenary in 1991. She was also research assistant to Professor Weston Bate for his book ' Essential but Unplanned - the Story of Melbourne's Lanes' published in 1994.
The Port Phillip Pioneers' Group was established by the GSV in 1970 and its inaugural meeting was held on 29th May 1970. Since that time 1200 descendants of the early pioneers of the Port Phillip District of NSW have joined the Group. This Saturday's meeting will be our 30th Birthday celebration, so members and visitors alike will be warmly welcomed to this very special occasion.
