Subject: Lost uncle
Hi, I am a new subscriber.
I am trying to trace my Uncle Tom (Thomas) ANDERSON, or any surviving
family.
Uncle Tom emigrated to Australia, from Tyneside, in 1926, by assisted
passage, costing we think about £10.
He sailed to Melbourne, where family hearsay states that he established a
successful haulage business.
He had two brothers, John (Jack) Drysdale, James(Jim), who became a
policeman in Manchester and a sister Nancy.
His fathers name was Robert ANDERSON and his mothers name was Elizabeth
Alice (DRYSDALE). His mother had previously been married to a George
DRYSDALE, who was killed by a bolting horse - they had a successful horse
and carriage business in the Willington Quay area. His mother was known to
have been living at some time at 37 Stephenson St., Willington Quay,
Howden-on-Tyne. Her maiden name is not known to me.
Can someone please advise me if there is any place in Melbourne that I might
contact to try to trace him, or his family.
Is there any sort of Haulage Union, or similar body, that he might have been
a member of.
Could some person look for his possible marriage, or death for me?
Any help would be much appreciated as I have come to a halt at this end.
Many thanks,
Roy ANDERSON (Eldest son of John Drysdale ANDERSON)
