We past through the Melbourne suburb of Ardeer recently and noticed at ICI
those tell-tale earth mounds that explosives manufacturers put round each
individual building so that if there is an explosion it all goes upwards.
Ardeer is also the name of the place in Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland where
Alfred Nobel set up his dynamite works in 1872.
>From the unique street names in Melbourne "Stevenston" and "Trelawny" and also
the suburb named "Deer Park" all in close proximity to the ICI factory
could it be that Scots came out to Australia to set up the Australian plant.
Can anyone confirm such a thing happening?
