Hi Pam.
Thanks for you quick reply, I have traced the paintings to St Mary's
as of the 1960's unfortunally they are no longer there, I have now left a
message
with the Catholic Church History archives in Melb. to see if they know where
the paintings have gone.
Re Children, there was a daughter Henrietta who we think died at about 13
years,
I don't know if she is buried in the geelong area. Plus I'm not sure if Elijah
had a
brother or cousin also a chemist, As I have a listing from Clunes for a Thomas
Walton Chemist in Fraser St in the 1860's. My GGGrandmother Sarah Walton
(sister of Eligah) married in Clunes to a Thomas Jones (Shop keeper in Fraser
St)
in 1962. as there is no grave in the clunes cemetery for a Thomas Walton maybe
he is also at Geelong.
When I was speaking to Veronica at the Geelong Gallary this morning, she
remembers seeing a catalogue for 1857-The Mechanics Institute, with a painting
by
Elijah Walton.
I will be in Melbourne next week for a few days, luck & health permitting I
will try to get to Geelong.
Best regards,
Michele Archer Waldron Berry.
