Hello all,

I have recently subscribed to the mailing list in the hope that someone may
be able to help me. I am hunting for any information about Mr E G Whatton
and his descendants.

So far my on-line searches in the obvious places including the DPS site,
lists of ships etc. have drawn a blank.

John Rice of Melbourne very kindly found some information for me, I
believe from the Vital Records CD. The Whatton surname is very rare in
Australia and Vital Records
lists just three including the entry about E. G. Whatton:

Victoria:
Hannah WHATTON born 1805 died 1854 in Victoria aged 49 Reg.# 2438
Mr E.G. WHATTON Arrived Melbourne 26/10/1850 from Adelaide SA on board
"William Stevenson".

Tasmania:
James WHATTON born 13/5/1859 Launceston Tasmania Reg # 1061 (Parents Thomas
and Lydia WHATTON, nee'VALE )

New South Wales:
No Convicts listed.

I would like the death certificate but The Vital Records CD has no listing
for E G Whatton's death so perhaps he died when very old or he left
Australia?

I have also tried a search for current members of the Whatton family at
www.whitepages.com.au but it returned no residential listings anywhere in
Australia.

I would very much like to access the information on the arrival shipping
list. If anyone is going into the Melbourne archives office would they be
willing to check it for me?

Any help or advice about how to proceed further would be much appreciated.

Regards from the UK where winter is just starting to set in :-(

Paul
