Hi Therese,
Thank you for all your help and advice. I see what you mean about trying to
look someone up in the phone book using variations of the name I have. It
doesn't work very well. I will have to wait for a copy of his Naturalization
papers from NSW to arrive which, hopefully, will have his full and proper
Greek name.
I did try to gather all the records on him from Births, Deaths and
Marriages, but could only find his death regaistration whic named his
birthplace as Athens. On his daughter's birth certificate, it only had
Greece. I haven't requested any of the other children's birth records, they
ahd a few, but did notice one seemed to have two surnames : William Karkole
KARKOE. Karkoe is the family name on everyone else's record, so this one
might be worth ordering. As far as finding a marriage certificate, I've had
no luck. Can't find it in the records.
Yes, this is frustrating sometimes, but it's a lot of fun.
