Hello All,

I am researching a relative who was killed in the first world war and I
would appreciate some advice, or help on where to look?

He was RSM William Henry Fear MC. 1st/8th Bn, Prince of Wale's Own (West
Yorkshire Regiment) (The Leeds Rifles)

I have found a little information about him online, and speaking to family
members.

The two events I am trying to find information are;

1) Why was he was awarded the Military Cross? (listed in the supplement to
the London Gazette on 26th June 1916)

2) How was he killed?, or what action was he involved in when was killed? -
He died on 14th July 1916 and is buried at Blighty Valley Cemetery.

I am hoping someone might know what action his battalion would have been
involved in around these dates?

Best regards,

Mark Ashwell
