Subject: Finding regimantal and indiviual information

Hi,

I recently found that my Great-Grandad, Joseph RUSCOE, was Sergeant 4851 in the
4th North Staffs Regiment in 1918 and during Aug 1918 he was living in York,
England.

What I would like to know is:
a) Where I can find information about the regiment and it's movements during
the war;
b) How to find out when he joined the army and when he finished his service, so
that I can work out if his records are possibly in the public records held at
Kew or if the records are still kept private.

If anyone can offer advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mike Fearn
