Sounds a good theory to me!

As you'll have found out, the CWGC has two men when you do a search for F
W Burns:
10424 Pte Frank William Burns of the 9th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment
38499 Driver F W Burns of the Royal Engineers
Soldiers Died in the Great War also has only two matches for F W Burns,
and for the same men as above. The Private in the West Yorkshire Regiment
was born in Deptford, Middlesex, and resided and enlisted in Yorkshire.
However the Driver from the Royal Engineers is recorded as having the
name forenames Frank William, and was born in Quebec! Here is his entry:
Number38499
RankDriver
SurnameBURNS,
ForenamesFRANK WILLIAM
Regt/CorpsCorps of Royal Engineers
DiedKilled in Action 06/05/1917 in EGYPT.
Born QUEBEC, CANADA
Enlisted in MITCHAM, SURREY
Resided in TOOTING JUNCTION, SURREY
Additional Text: "EL" SIGNAL SECT, RE
It therefore looks extremely likely that the man recorded on the
Lennoxville Memorial is Driver Burns of the British Army's Royal
Engineers.
