Pat,

Was there another home in the Peekskill area that would have taken boys
and
girls? A friend of the family had two sons and a daughter who were
taken
from her and they were up state NY. My mother used to go about once a
month
with her girl friend (their aunt) to visit.

The parents were separated and the mother was living with another man.
I
think he might have molested the daughter. At any rate, they weren't
there
more than about six months and went back to their mother and the boy
friend.
As soon as the boys were older they left home. The mother, bf and
daughter
traveled around during the warII and the bf tried to molest the daughter

again only by this time she fought with him. The mother finally left
him and
when the daughter was sixteen she married (?) and had a baby. I lost
track
of them after that.

I can tell you it scared the daylights out of me. My parents had
separated
when I was about 5 and before that we lived here and there (my father
was an
officer in the merchant marine) and my mother was just irresponsible.
At any
rate, we were living with the man she finally married and he was an
alcoholic. Without going into details I was always afraid the state
would
take us (me, my brother and two half brothers) away and we would end up
in a
home.

I forgot about that until I read your email. Funny how we bury these
things.

It's a beautiful day here in south Jersey. Enjoy.
