Notes for NANCY JANE GEORGE:
August 5, 1870 Van Buren, TN. Census Civil District #5 . Having 3
children with last name Kirby. It also shows that she gave her name as Jane Kirby
and she can not read or write, she is living next to her father.
June 18, 1880 Van Buren, TN. Census Civil District #2. Having 5 children
with last names as George. It also shows that Jane George is a Widow.
1890 Census Burned in the Archives.
June 19, 1900 White, TN. Census Civil District #4. Shows having 2 children
and 2 living.
May 5, 1910 White, TN. Census Civil District #4. Shows
having 7 children and only 2 living. Number of marriages are 2 and marriages of 26
years. Living with Pleasant and Martha Kirby.
At this point is when there is some confusion. The 1900 & 1910 has a
difference in the # of children born unto Nancy. We know by the census for these
years that more than two children were still alive. The 1900 is Nancy's to,
then that makes 4 children living. The only thing that would make since about
the 1900 census would be a misunderstanding as to the question's about children
living at that residence belonging to this mother.
Nancy and John lived together, never married, they had two children
together, Charlie Dink and Darthula. The kids go by both last surnames, George and
Priest. No death record for Nancy from 1914 to 1920 for the state of TN.
She lived with Charlie and Hattie when Bert was a baby which he was born in
1914. Then she left. Unknown where she went.
