Hi,

I have traced my husband's George line back a ways, thanks to a now
deceased Aunt and now deceased cousin. This line is so full of
Nicholas', William's, and John's, that it can be very confusing.

It appears to be a line that many of you are researching as well. I
wonder if we could compare notes and see if this line is noted
correctly.

I would suggest you print this out and make notes, write questions,
etc as it gets pretty complicated.

I will begin with Nicholas Ira George (1816 - 1906) and work backward
into the past.
(b. 1816 in St. Helena, LA m. Elizabeth West 1836 in St. Helena, LA
and died in St. Helena, LA).
I have a xeroxed picture of him and his tombstone so I am pretty
confident of our line back to him.
Nicholas Ira George was the first son of John George (1783 - 1837 LA)
and Sarah "Sally Kemp (1802-1877). He married Elizabeth Blackmon West
in 1836 who was suppose to be part Indian.

John George (1783 - 1837 LA) and Sarah "Sally Kemp (1802-1877) were
married in 1815 and had the following children:
Nicholas Ira (see above)
Eliza Walker b. 1818
Sarah Ann m. Wm. B. Robertson
Nancy m. Judge Berlin Childress
Mary Jane m. Dr. Jacob F. Randolph
Charles Whitson b. 1834
Frances Elizabeth b. 1835

John George (1783 - 1837 LA) was the son of John George (1747 VA -
1823 LA) and Frances Freeman (1756 VA - 1830-40 LA) He was the first
generation of George's to come to Louisiana. He received a land grant
and settled in St. Helena Parish, LA abt. 1804. He married Frances
abt. 1780 before moving to Louisiana.
They had the following children:
Freeman m. Elnora
John (1783 - 1837 LA) see above
William b. 1817 m. Mary Ann Hoggatt
Nicholas b. 1793 m. 1)Polly Martha Kemp m2 Nancy Burton
Joseph m. 1814 to Mary Holloway
Wilmouth m. 1814 to Caleb Kemp
Nancy m. David Witt
Frances m. Uriah Smith
Mary m. James Johnson of Oglethorp Co., GA

John George (1747 VA - 1823 LA) see above was the first son of
William George (1722 - 1799) and Mary Whitson who married Nov. 1,
1745 in Stafford, Overwharton, VA.
William and Mary had the following children:
John George 1747 VA - 1823 LA (see above)
Lydia b. 1749
Franky b. 1751
Sarah Ann b. 1754
William b. 1756

Here the confusion sets in as this William (1722 - 1799) may have
also been married to an Eleanor and had children with her. Some of
the above children may actually be hers. I do not have a death date
for Mary Whitson. In fact, I have nothing on Mary Whitson.

The picture of this line gets cloudier from this point backward.

The above William George (1722 - 1799) was the second son of Nicholas
George (abt. 1680 VA - 1737 VA) and Mary Fowler of Richmond, VA.
This Nicholas George and Mary had the following children:
Nicholas b. 1720 (this Nicholas was suppose to have m. Margaret
Whitson - kin? to Mary Whitson? whom his brother William married?
lots of questions here.
William (1722 - 1799) (see above)
Lewis b. 1727
Wilmouth m. Henry Harding

The above Nicholas George (abt. 1680 VA - 1737 VA) was the son of
Nicholas George (abt. 1635 - abt. 1700 of Lancaster, VA) and
Elizabeth Ann James (1646 - 1690-1739). This Nicholas and Elizabeth
had the following children, all b. in Lancaster, VA:
Ruth b. 1666
William b. 1670
Elmore b. 1675
Benjamin b. 1678
Nicholas b. 1680

The above Nicholas George (abt. 1635 - abt. 1700 of Lancaster, VA)
was the a son of Nicholas George (abt. 1601 England -1661 VA)and
Margaret Saward (d. 1668 VA) who m. in Essex Co., England
This Nicholas and Margaret had the following children:
Nicholas (abt. 1635 - abt. 1700 of Lancaster, VA) see above
Grace m1 John Arnold m2 Thomas Sampson
Sarah m. Richard Marshall
John d. 1693 unmarried

What do you have on this line?

Thanks
Barbara Denny George
