Judy --
O frabjous day! Bless you, most excellent and worthy cousin! Frustrated by
my lack of progress, I had laid this line aside some time ago -- now, you
have blown a gaping hole in my brick wall! These RootsWeb lists are just
fantastic!
Elizabeth Ann Florantha George was my 2nd great grandmother -- I even have a
rare old photograph of her, obviously taken at the very end of her life. I
have considerable information on her descendants, but the only thing I knew
about her siblings and ancestry was the limited information I outlined in my
previous posting.
Is there a website where the data for this George line is displayed? If you
could give me a URL, it would be a lot easier than my asking you questions
piecemeal. If not, I'll contact you off list and we'll start comparing
notes. If you are interested, I would be happy to share with you all I have
on the descendants of Elizabeth and her husband, William Wallace Colby.
Incidentally, the reason that you can't find birth records for all of Moses
George's children in Haverhill may be that some of them were perhaps born
elsewhere. As a case in point, Elizabeth's death certificate (a copy of
which is in my possession) says that she was born in Charlestown.
Charlestown is that little peninsula in north Boston where the Bunker Hill
monument is located, just across the Charles River from downtown -- until
1874, it was a separate municipality. I do have Abigail and Marietta (the
next older and next younger children) being born in Haverhill -- why the
family should have been down in the Boston area when Elizabeth was born is a
complete mystery to me.
Needless to say, I am really excited about your posting -- I look forward
eagerly to hearing from you!
