I would agree with that. And here's my example. The AYLETT family of
Virginia thought that they were descended not from the Ayletts of
Essex, who were fairly prosperous yeomen in the 17thC, but from the
AYLOFFES, a different family who were much more eminent, running to
knights and baronets. There is no evidence for this view, but
someone has uploaded all the Ayloffes onto the IGI as Ayletts.
If IGI material looks as if it has been extracted from Parish
Records, then it may be worth something. But treat with great
suspicion anything submitted by individuals as this is not checked,
will not be checked and will not be changed either according to my
chat with an LDS person.
