Hi Barbara- They arrived in NY in 1877, I tried finding them in 1880 but not much luck yet. Do you know where in Scotland William was from, you could try looking at the Scottish census records on Ancestry.com. I found this on Ancestry, you might try Castle Garden which was the place before Ellis Island. There is a website for Castle Garden, just put Castle Garden in the Google Search.
