Looking for an orphanage called "The Cripples Nursery" on 14 Old Quebec Street, London, Middlesex County, England.
According to the 1881 Census of London, Middlesex, England, (My great grandfather attended) Richard Barlow, Birth year 1871, Birthplace London, London, Middlesex, England, age 10, occupation Scolar, Head of House Emily Baylis Head Matron of the Home, Relationship other, Dwelling 14 Old Quebec St. The Cripples Nursery, Census Place London, Middlesex, England, Family History Library # 1341032, Public Records Office Ref# RG11, Piece/Folio 0146/28 Page 50.
Richard was born June 6, 1871. Parents were James Barlow and Sarah ? I am searching for reason he was in this home! Did his father die, and his mother couldn't raise him or vice versa? Did he have any siblings?
Since the 1871 census for England was taken in April 1871, before Richard's birthday in June 1871; does anyone have any ideas how to figure out which James and Sarah Barlow are his Parents? Where would I find his records at this home?
There was also another Richard Barlow 2 years older at the Bernardo home who was born in 1869 London Bridge, London, Msx Co, England! (I recently confused him with my Richard). How would I find out when Richard immigrated to Canada? First record I have for him here in Canada is December 18, 1895 when he was married to Mary Maude Day. So, I assume between 1881-1894. The 1901 Census Waterford Twp. has Richard Barlow and Family. Under the year of immigration it remains blank? Unfortunately!!!!
Can anyone help? I would appreciate it very much, I'm stuck!
Gail
