Dear David,
We had quite a bit of discussion about this on the list in late
December and early January. You might want to go back and read the series
of messages on this topic from that period. In particular I would suggest
that you review this summary message I posted:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-01/1199611159 and
this follow up message to it:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-01/1199648826. The
list correspondence over the preceding days is also of interest. As far as
I can tell the HUGO Reference Sequence comes almost entirely from one R1b1c
male with the exception of most of the AZFa region (positions
12933864-13681909), which comes at least partly from a male in haplogroup G.
As best as I know at this time, the Y DNA from only two males is included in
the HUGO sequence. If anyone can provide any greater clarity to this
situation, their insights would be appreciated, particularly if there is any
information that there is Y DNA from more than two individuals in the HUGO
sequence.
I agree with Gareth that we need more data. We need more people who
are willing to share their deCODEme Y SNP results publicly in their
entirety. Sharing portions of an individual's Y SNP results is better than
sharing nothing, but sharing one's Y SNP results in their entirety will be
more helpful in the long run. This is the only way we are going to be able
to place some of the Y SNPs that deCODEme includes in their panel on the Y
SNP tree, particularly those SNPs that are relatively uncommon. Some odd
SNP results may be due to lab errors. Thus we need to carefully evaluate
each person's SNP results in context of other available results.
Sincerely,
Tim Janzen

I should have asked this question in my earlier reply. What is our current
understanding of the HUGO Y-chromosome? I think we have established that it
represents multiple sources from different haplogroups, but have we
established how many individuals or how many haplogroups?

There may be other explanations for this SNPs odd results so any additional
data, from inside and outside R1b1c, will be very useful.
