Two reference books -- not formal histories -- for settlers in the
Shenandoah Valley are:

Chalkey, Lyman "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in
Virginia: Extracted from the Original Court Records of Augusta County
1745-1800"
[this three volume set of 'abstracted' court records has also been
