This debate is probably futile. It sounds like someone has sour grapes they
lost the colonies.

Respectfully ...

-----

"At the start of the unrest there was a (large?) majority against breaking
the
ties. Even many of the leaders were unwilling to take the final step."

-- Every male line of mine in Maryland was fully mustered in 1778.
One mentioned in 1832 that his battalion had repulsed a mid-1776,
attempted landing at Delaware Bay.

----------

"Opposition was broad and included those who continued in opposition -
many of whom were forced out of the new USA."

-- There was no time to put up with it.

----------

"There was no revolution; had there been the Amerindians, ex-slaves,
slave-apprentices, &c"

-- We intermarried with at least 3 Ameridian lines ourselves.
A revolution is for those who fight it. Social restructuring
(socialism) is different from political independence (revolution)
IMO.

-----

"My forebears began at Jamestown under their own
entrepreneurship and investment."

That's what the whole British colonies were about.

--My point was they acted and invested independently even then.
The monarch took credit later.

-----

"The 'yoke' was a political figment of little or no consequence."

-- Yeah, right.

-----

Nuff said. This time for sure.
