Bonnie,
Thanks for your help.
I have written two replays to the list, but it seems that they didn't
get through.
Here is what I wrote:
Thanks for accepting my decission on cooperating with FamilyTree DNA. In
deed, we are working on a technical solution to upload our results to
the FamilyTree DNA databases. This upload will be only possible if a
customer explicitely pushes the upload button. All other data will be
kept strictly confidential and will not leave our local computers in
Germany. However, we will need some time to work on the techical issues
and we will have to wait at least until Ysearch will be upgraded to the
new markers.
It is right in the intention of FTDNA to continue single marker orders.
Bennett calls this a "butique test". The new lab in Houston is actually
focused on the work that previously was covered by DNA-Fingerprint.
There we will mainly do extended testing and sequencing whereas the
Geneographic samples and the routine tests will still be outsourced in
the UOA laboratory.
Anne has batch 9 open for orders, so this is still a good opportunity to
get in. When I will be in Houston, FTDNA will take over the business
part and I will be able to focus on the scientific part. There will
certainly be a solution. If you have a larger group that should be
tested for the same markers, you can certainly talk to Bennett or Max to
get a good price.
The sense of organizing batches was originally to save money on
international money transfers, because small amounts cost the same fees
as larger summs.
This is actually no longer necessary and Anne will probably not be able
to handle batches with 10-20 fold volume. Remember, that she basically
did this for free, just to get the discount for her own projects! (Thank
you Anne, very much for your extraordinary good work!). The good side of
this story is that we will have acces to the DNA from FTDNA customers
and there will not be a need for paying a new extraction.
