Kia ora
I have a reasonably comprehensive list of European equivalents of Maori
forenames, but am stuck on one or two. Can anybody assist?
Here (f) - could this be the equivalent of Sally as Hera is Sarah and
Sally is the European dimunitiive of Sarah?
Teoni (?m/f) - logic suggests Tony/Anthony (Antonia etc.)
Is Maaki a dimunitive for Makareti as Maggie is for Margaret?
Are Tami and Tame equal diminutives for Tamati (Tom/Thomas)
Taini (?m ?f) - stuck completely on this.
And in reverse, the European Ned (is that Edward?) - is there a Maori
equivalent.
Being stuck on these is proving a real difficulty in working out who is
who in a large family, and processing my IGI information.
Thanks for your help.
