Lizzie, This was really interesting. I've done a fair bit about the emancipation of
women, but as I was always taught by men, there was only ever a passing mention
as to how this influenced fashion.
The only thing I'd perhaps add, is the sense of a new century with the Edwardian
era, not to mention the King's determination to do away with the attitudes his mother
had fostered for so long. He had been waiting off stage for many years, not really
being usefully t5rained for anything else, unlike Victoria who was still a teenager
when she ascended the throne.
I can remember my mum's flapper shoes being in my drerssing up box when I was
little.
