Several comments this time.

* Lizzie - what do you sing, or have you sung? I am a classical music fan
in general.

* And Lizzie and Cece have a liking for the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius,
which I know only slightly. As far as Roman emperors go, I have always
regarded Trajan as the most capable and human.

That cottage of Lizzie's must be fascinating for an architectural historian.
Unfortunately, when I visited England ten years ago I was with a
tramping/backpacking group, and we spent four days in London (the queue at
the Tower was about two hours long, so I had to flag it away!), and then did
a week tramping in the Lake District, followed by ten days walking across
the Yorkshire Dales and Moors from Shap to Whitby. So I had very little
time to spend on historical sightseeing although I did go through the Green
Howards museum at Richmond; the ruined Abbey at Whitby; the Railway Museum,
York Minster, the Jorvik display, and Cliffords Tower at York.

I still recall with pleasure that walk across Yorkshire. We went across the
line of a Roman road - covered with grass but still clearly discernible, a
few Celtic stone circles, mediaeval churches, a lead mine going back beyond
Roman times, and so on. The castle at Richmond incorporates a bit of the
fortress built by the Conqueror, and we travelled on a railway line laid
down by George Stephenson. And all that in a few days. England has more
history than anyone could take in, and I have to live half a world away from
it!

Oh, well - down to earth again!

Stan
