Sir Iain Moncreiffe of That Ilk, the very well known genealogist, described his own ancestry and this description can be found in "Lord of the Dance" A Moncreiffe Miscellany, edited by Hugh Montgomery-Massingberd.

He tells how he descents from a natural son of a dashing Austrian count, called Resseguier de Miremont. He does not give us the first name of this count, but this count's mother is Countess Amelie Festetics de Tolna 1798-1872.

This Amelie and her husband, Roger, Graf Resseguier, Marquis de Miremont 1806-1887, had at least two sons, Adrian 1833-1901 and Olivier 1837-1916.

Adrian 1806-1887 married in 1859 and Olivier 1837-1916 married in 1868. Both had time to father a child before settling down, but which one is the father of that elusive ancestor of Sir Iain Moncreiffe? Does anyone know?
Many thanks
