Alison Weir's Britain's Royal Families: The Complete Genealogy, New Updated
Edition, Pimlico, 1996, p. 256.

By Barbara (1641-1709), daughter of William Villiers, 2nd Viscount Grandison, and
wife of Roger Palmer, Earl of Castlemaine; she was later created Duchess of
Cleveland in her own right
1) Anne FitzRoy (1661-1722); she married Thomas Lennard, Earl of Sussex
(1654-1715). She was possibly the daughter of Roger Palmer, although the King
acknowledged her as his own.

Mike Ashley's British Kings and Queens: The Complete Biographical Encyclopedia
of the Kings and Queens of Great Britain, Carroll and Graf, 1998, p. 659.

This source shows that Anne Fitzroy (1661-1722) married Henry Lennard, earl of
Sussex, not Thomas and had no children from the marriage. It also states that
she was an illegitimate daughter of Charles II by Barbara Villiers (1641-1709),
later Duchess of Cleveland.

The two above sources give different first names for Anne Fitzroy's husband's
name. His name may have been Henry Thomas or Thomas Henry and the sources
decided to use only one of the given names.

There is no reference to an affair with Ralph, 1st Duke of Montagu in either of
the sources.
