You are talking about someone born roughtly 1820s, son of an Earl who
married a second time. The names Manvers and Pierrepont are involved.
Charles Pierrepont born 1737, died 1816 was the first Earl Manvers, he was
married only once (in 1774).
His son was Charles Herbert Pierrepont, born 1778, died in 1860, married in
1804, and he was 2nd Earl Manvers.
Lodge's Peerage (1872 edition) gives him the following sons
1.Charles, Viscount Newark born 1805 died without issue 1850. He married in
1832
2.Sydney William Herbert, 3rd Earl Manvers, born in 1825
died in 1900. In 1852 he married a noble French lady and had five children
born between 1853 and 1865.
None of them married a second time. Somehow, I feel there is no legitimate
link with this family. Also I doubt very much he was genuinely invited after
1861 to come to England to become the next Earl Manvers as the 2nd Earl
Manvers was Earl from 1860 till he died in 1900.
The story could well be correct but involving a different family as the
years obviously do not fit. Or was he illegitimate? That is always a
possibility. My apologies if I disappoint you.
Best wishes
