Dear List,
I am working with two brief references, as follows:
".......our Great Grandfather on the Mother's side was a Stuart. A
descendant of Mathew Stuart, the father of Lord Darnley, who married Mary,
Queen of Scots. This Mr. Stuart married a Miss Walker - their daughter,
Anne Stuart, married Henry Harrison, son of [?] Harrison and Jane
Hanley.......The Harrisons came from Northallerton [NRY]...."
and, [in reference to Anne Harrison, daughter of Anne Stuart and Henry
Harrison, above]
"...Her mother was Lennox Stuart and there are notes suggesting that her gg
grandfather was first cousin to King James I......"
Most of the information that came from the same sources has turned out to be
(to some extent) verifiable so I'm curious to know what may be the kernel of
truth here. :o)
I have searched the web and found a few sites with Stuart/Stewart genealogy
info, but nothing that seems to fit with this. I live in a rural area, and
our local public libraries don't have much in the way of British history, at
least not to this level of detail. Our local FHC has very little on the
shelves - everything has to be ordered in. Can anyone suggest useful
sources with which to begin? I have recently ordered a book titled "The
Making of a King, A Biography of The Young Man Who Became James VI of
Scotland, and James I of England. 1968 by Caroline Bingham" and I'm hoping
it will be a help.
I just wondered whether anyone out there might have a particular interest in
this area or any suggestions?
