Subject: Stack Files Problem

I turned on the computer and it barely started setup when I got a beautiful blue screen ant the message:
"Terminating thread due to a stoack overflow problem. A VxD, possibly recently installed, has consumed too much space. Increase the setting of MinSPs. in SYSTEM.INI or remove recently installed VxD's . there are currently 4 Sps allocated"
I think the only thing I have downloaded in some time have been some critical updates, but I don't know if that means I recently installed a VxD when doing that. I checked some old posts on this list and found suggestion to 'fix' the MinSPs by: "
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>"Sysedita'"or " shortcut to SYSEDIT.EXE. That will open the system configuaration editor with Sevral files fanned one on top of the other.
>SelectC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI by clicking on it's title once.
Click on the "Search" menu and select "find"
Enter "minsp" less quotation marks, and make sure that case sensitive is NOT selected . >Click on "Next".
If it finds it, change the number after the equal sign to 8 or so.
But if it doesn't find it, I just added a new line "Min SP=8" in the top section under the heading "[Boot}. Make sure it's on a line by itself. Now close whole thing by click on X in upper right corner of the System Configurarion Editor.
I don't know where you 'add a new line "Min SP=I" as this las sentence directs. but here is why I could carry out the instructions:
I got only as far as System Tools > I never saw Sysedit or Shortcut to Sysedit.EXE. in the System Tools 2 folders, which are named : Systems Information and System monitor.
Can anyone tell me another way I can 'do what these instructions suggest?
I didn't have the same occurrence when I turned my computer back on this evening.
Thanks, much,
Joan
