And yet the English sources (all but two of which are
inconsistant with the Kievan solution) all date from earlier than
this time. The confusion started almost practically from the
time Edward's fate became known to the English, it would seem.
If there was a consensus in the XVI century (I am assuming that
is what you are refering to), it must have resolved out of the
original confusion, only to crumble again into confusion.
