These are not surnames of last names. They did not exist at this time. It is
similar to calling Eric the Red ... his last name is not Red. He was only
known as Eric. Likewise, they call Louis the Fat, and Charles the Bald. Some
of the identifying appellations are really colorful and descriptive, but much
of what the describe has been lost to history.
