It doesn't make much difference how many bastards are involved--although
that will account for some descents--but are you forgetting that Charlemagne
lived in A.D. 800? Regardless of whom they married back then, there are
enough marriages among legitimate descendants with non-royal and non-noble
persons that almost everybody would descend...
