Richard,
Thank you so much for the detailed information on William Berkeley and
also (especially) on Humphrey Stafford. Since William did not die until 1501
(a detail which I did not have), then it is quite obvious that we are dealing
with two Ann Staffords. Just having that part of the puzzle solved is a
relief to me.
Ann Stafford who married Richard Neville was the Ann I was interested in, but
I have to admit that my curiousity is now piqued as to the parentage of the
other Ann. I now have in front of me the Stafford articles posted by Doug
Gentile in Oct of last year, and I see that Humphrey Stafford who m. Catherine
Fray was b. ca. 1427. If this is the case, then I can certainly see why Weis
assigned Ann Stafford Berkeley to this Humphrey. If she belongs with these
Staffords at all, then I suspect she must instead be Humphrey's sister,
and b. in the mid 1440s--one of the youngest children of Humphrey Stafford and
Eleanor Aylesbury. Since we now know that she had _two_ sons in addition
as her daughter Katherine, then a 1440s b. date would not be out of line.

So William and Ann were already husband and wife by 1466. A mid-1440s birth
date for her would then work QUITE well.
As for my Ann Stafford Neville, if the dates given in Doug's post are
accurate, then she must indeed belong to Humphrey and Catherine (Fray)
Stafford. Their son, Humphrey Stafford (m. Margaret Fogge) is assigned a
tentative b. date of 1477/8, which would make him much too young to be Ann's
father, but of perfect age to be her brother. I took a quick look through
the index of the PCC last evening, and discovered that a Sir Humphrey
Stafford, knight, of Blatherwyke, Northampton, left a will proved in 1546
(14 Alen). This must be the Humphrey b. 1477/8, since he left no son of that
name. I have put this will at the top of my "to do" list, and will order it
as soon as possible. His sister Ann I believe was already deceased at this
time, but perhaps he may mention prayers being said for her soul (was that
still allowed after Henry VIII's break with Rome?--probably not--drat!).
Anyway, I will report my findings when I get my hands on the will (likely
several weeks).
Thanks again!
