I don't know of a Michael Canning, but Richard Canning of Foxcote Manor
in Warwicks married Mary Sambache of Broadway, Worcs and had son William
in 1592. They were in the Herald's Visitations for Warwicks in 1619
(which I have not seen), with four other children. Cannings were still at
Foxcote Manor during the Civil war, and the "wealthy Richard" was said
to be one of two major Catholic landowners who suffered losses by
pillaging. THere was also an association with property of the Catesbys of
Chastleton, Oxon.in 1592. I have no earlier info, but obviously the
Cannings were not john-come-latelys in Warwickshire.
Have you tried the DLB for the family of the 18th c politician George
Canning?
Good luck.
