Hope this is of some help although it may be a little basic.
McNabb means 'son of the Abbott' in the Celtic church (Columba etc.) I do not
think that there was an impediment to Abbotts marrying & therefore the Clan
McNabb/ McNab/ Abbott derived their name form such ancestors.
Clan McNabb is actually an ancient clan with roots in Pictish / Dalriada
times deriving from the house of Alpin.
A modern day notable McNabb is Ian McNabb who was in the rock group Icicle
Works and has had a solo carrier since '91/92.
