Believe it or not, washing clothes and bathing were done by the riverside. If
the Robert the Devil legend were manufactured, prurient interest would have
been more of a concern and the legend would have had him catch her the act of
bathing rather than washing clothes.
There are two separate myths in the Melusine stories were heard related. The
one about the witch flying out the church window seems later in origin and
separate from the half-snake body legend which has mythical overtones.
