Oops. That's my fault. Gundemariz is right.

I don't know where the mother comes from. I suspect this is based on
Menendez Pidal, but he clearly states he doesn't know her mother.

Yes, and it includes such things as the Salvadorez line for Sancho
Garcia's wife Urraca, which Salazar had already rejected in the early
80s.
If you haven't guessed from my questions, I doubt this connection very
much. Traditional sources show Jimena Diaz as daughter of Jimena
Alfonso. The problem is that a contemporary document by her brothers
Rodrigo and Vermudo specifically names their mother as Christina. It
was only for this reason that Menendez Pidal (and perhaps others before
him) shifted Jimena Alfonso back a generation, making her grandmother of
Jimena Diaz, and wife of Fernando G. I have found no record of Jimena
Alfonso marrying, and likewise, I have found no mention of a Jimena,
wife of Fernando G. On the other hand, Saez spends several pages
discussing Fernando G and his wife Muniadona Ordonez (based on a
contemporary document).
There remains the tradition of a relationship between Jimena Diaz and
Alfosno VI. The reassignment of Jimena Diaz's descent from Fernando G
to the paternal side (Menendez Pidal had made he and Jimena Alfonso
maternal grandparents, while the contemporary document, the same naming
Christina, only refers to aunt Urraca, daughter of Fernando G, not
specifying to which side she belonged) leaves Christina's ancestry
unknown. This name is extremely unusual in the area at the time, and
immediately suggests (as does her naming a son Vermudo) a relationship
to Christina, daughter of Vermudo II. The nature of this relationship,
and whether it involves Christina Vermudez's niece Jimena Alfonso,
remains to be seen.
