Just to amplify on this comment, Blankinship addresses the descent of
each of the claimed muslim brides or mistresses from Muhammed, and finds
them groundless. To give an idea of the nature of these, I am preparing
a manuscript in which I address each of the descents which lead from
these supposed marriages down to "gateway" ancestors, and in turn find
each of them groundless (except perhaps for the link between the Kings
of Sicily and Zaida). They amply represent the excesses to which one
can be driven by the desire for such descents.
