There is an article on the ancestry of this Sir Edward Montagu in The
Complete Peerage (Volume IX of the original numbering, Appendix D, pages
25-29). A discussion of the name change (Ladde to Montagus) is on page 28.
Basically it reads:
William Ladde (alive 1441/2)
married and had:
Richard Ladde (died before Sept 1484) - changed his name to Montagu
married Agnes and had:
Thomas Montagu (died 5 Sept 1516)
married first Agnes, daughter of William Dudley of Clopton - mother of
Edward below:
married second Mary, daughter of William Lane of Finedon
Edward Montagu (died 10 Feb 1556/7) - the Lord Chief Justice of England.
He married 3 times.
