Being French, I never had the feeling that the battle of Poitiers was
forgotten. It was certainly among the 5 better known dates of French history
when I was a kid. I can still hear the high pitch "732, Charles Martel bat
les arabes a Poitiers" (Charles Martel defeats the Arabs at Poitiers).
Now same religion, different people; I was taught that the Siege of Vienna
(celebrated by the still popular food, the croissant) was the landmark
choosen as the symbol of the end of the Middle Ages.
Interesting discussions.
Anybody knows if there is a list of those who fought with Charles Martel? It
looks a bit early for that, but why not ask.
