In a message dated 97-09-08 05:07:01 EDT, you write:

<< So can we, at least, get titles straight? Regarding the above quote,

1) Diana's father was Earl Spencer, not Earl of Spencer. Many earldoms
and marquisates created after 1700, especially if they use the family
name as the title, do not have the "of." Dukes always have the "of,"
viscounts and barons never do (with two Scottish exceptions for
viscounts).

2) Daughters of earls are styled as "Lady" before their Christian names,
not "The honourable."

3) Younger sons of earls are styled "The Honourable" not Lord.

Grumpily yours in this sad week,

Also very sad, but why not just get rid of all the titles and join the
world?? So much BS, so little meat. Form over content. Whatever--could not
resist.

Always optimistic--Dave
