GE>Ed Mann and Tanya Marshall kindly sorted out the confusing Nevill
GE>connection:
GE>(1-1) John of Gaunt = Katherine Roet
GE>(1-2) Joan Beaufort = Robert de Ferrers
GE>(1-3) Mary de Ferrers = (2-3) Ralph Neville
GE>(2-1) John de Neville = Maud de Percy
GE>(2-2) Ralph de Neville = Margaret de Stafford
GE>(2-3) Ralph Neville = (1-3) Mary de Ferrers
GE>After all this took place, and their respective first spouses died,
GE>(1-2) Joan Beaufort = (2-2) Ralph de Neville 1st Earl Westmorland.
GE> I now see in Arthur Mee's Nottinghamshire that there was a whole string of
GE>Cliftons (most of them called Gervase) who inhabited Clifton, Notts since
GE>medieval times. There would appear to be another Nevill connection as he
GE>states: The fine brass portrait of Sir Robert Clifton of 1478 shows him in
GE>armour with his head on a helmet and a greyhound at his feet; another brass
GE>is of his son Gervase, knighted at the coronation of Richard the Third.
GE>[1484] Very lovely is the smiling figure of his wife, Alice Nevill, who
GE>lies on an alabaster tomb, wearing a long-sleeved gown of smooth folds.
Whose wife? Clifton's or Richard III?
GE> My quite extensive Nevill tree dose not show this Alice. I guess this
GE>Gervase is probably the father of the Gervase in the MI, or could it be the
GE>same one (are Anne and Agnes interchangable names?, in which case Sir
GE>Robert Consatable of Flamborough would be anothe Nevill).
With your indefinite use of the personal possessive pronoun "his" to
modify the noun "wife", I'm not exactly sure who you're talking about,
but Richard III's wife was Anne Neville, his first-cousin-once-removed.
>From above, as outlined in Faris' Plantagenet Ancestry:
(1-2) Joan Beaufort = (2-2) Ralph de Neville 1st Earl Westmorland
(3-3) Richard Neville = Alice Montacute
(3-4) Richard Neville = Anne de Beauchamp
(3-5) Anne Neville = (4-4) Richard III of England
(1-2) Joan Beaufort = (2-2) Ralph de Neville 1st Earl Westmorland
(4-3) Cecily Neville = RIchard Plantagenet, 3d Duke of York
(4-4) Richard III of England = (3-5) Anne Neville
